Recently I was asked what I think about life profound mysteries. If I believe in “God” and how I relate to it? It, taken as whatever, whoever and however we would like to define God’s figure in our life. Obviously, this set me thinking about Astrology which as you might guess is a huge part of my life. The following is my attempt to put feeling and thinking together into words in trying to answer this question.
What has defined my life from early on was a deep certitude that all is connected and by that I literally mean ALL. Nothing is out of ALL. When I started studying science in preparation for University, I came to the reductionist scientific world view with that mindset. As you can image, it was not easy. As much as I tried, and they have tried to convince me otherwise, as my studies progressed to medical sciences and pharmacy, the more I felt as an outsider who is trying to keep both feet in two worlds. Two worlds, that according to me, are only separated by an illusion that the world around us has created, not because they really are.
My studies then progressed naturally to natural medicine (pun intended) and then to holistic healing. It was just the river of life taking me along, sometimes I eagerly followed, at other times less so. And it was that flow of life, that breath of the Cosmos that brought me then to Astrology. When I first met Astrology, I was fascinated, and that fascination turned into love and that love into determination to study astrology to apply it to natural healing. Because at the end of the day, that is who I am a natural healer.
Astrology for me is not only a tool through which I analyse the well-being of a person or a person’s temperament. Astrology for me is the language of the Divine, the poetical and humoristic expression of the Mystery of Life. Astrology for me is not only an intellectual exercise, but a spiritual practice, a daily devotion, an ear tuned in to the heartbeat of the Cosmos. The planets are a mere expression of something deeper, but I consciously choose this language to listen and connect to Life’s Mystery.
There is a beautiful web of connection that links different substances, things, places and people to similar energies that vibrate with the same wavelength and which forms the basis of all hermetic teachings and healings. As for example the crystal Red Jasper to Mars, or the herb Rosemary to the Sun, or orators to Jupiter, black olives to Saturn and markets to Mercury. The as above so below, so does the macrocosm mirror the microcosm, such as the Air element relates to Spring and to the Sanguine temperament, Fire to Summer and the Choleric, Earth to Autumn and the Melancholic and Water to Winter to the Phlegmatic. Connecting to one will naturally connect with all the others because they are born out of the same root and they are only different expressions of the same archetypes in diverse vibrational mediums.
Astrology describes the quality of time as we move in our earthly dimensions. For me Astrology has taught me patience when I wanted to go fast. Acceptance when times are hard. Healing when in dis-ease. Wonder and awe when I look at events in my life and see them as an expression of something bigger than me unfolding through me and with me. It has also taught me humility and courage because I do not know all and will never do.
For me Astrology is yes looking at the stars but also keeping my feet firmly rooted in the ground because I am a child of both the Earth and Starry Heavens… an animist and alchemist at heart, a pharmacist in love with the stars.
Astrology is the means through which I can timidly and intimately peek into the Mystery of Life that no words will ever describe but only the heart can truly dialogue with.
Wishing you health, peace and prosperity.
