On the 20th of January 2022 at 02:39, UTC Sun entered the house of Aquarius, the daytime temple of Saturn.
The Sun changes houses, and for the only time in the year, it remains under the same host. Saturn rules both Capricorn and Aquarius. For the Northern Hemisphere, this is the coldest of the seasons. Sun is travelling in the remotest areas away from its peak, in summer, in her house in Leo.
As usual, we will describe the Aquarius energy starting with the basic building blocks.
Aquarius is Element Air
Although affectionately called the Water Bearer, Aquarius is an Air element energy.
Air is the second lightest element. How much it rises depends on its internal energy. More heat, more movement. Hot air rises. Cold air sinks. Secondarily its range of motion is also governed by how much water and other matter air molecules carry.
Air has the quality of carrying other materials, which can indirectly modify its behaviour.
How much Air is cold or hot depends on the heat given by external factors. Air in Wintertime is absolutely colder than Air in Spring or Autumn. However, Air to be Air, the transparent fluid flowing around, needs to have some heat in it, or its molecules wouldn't float around. And since water is ubiquitous on planet earth, Air always has water molecules suspended on it. So, Air tends to be warming and moistening in an equilibrium state.
Now let us take this to the allegorical level.
Air is always in motion. Air is curious. According to the kind of material we find hitchhiking on the Air molecules, we know who Air has been in contact with. Air is socially buzzing here and there and acting like a ferry linking different realities. Air talks to us, be it metaphorically or literally. We talk because we vibrate the vocal cords with Air coming from our lungs.
Although Air is all over the place, Air remains itself. Air is objective and detached.
Air brings us new concepts but in an intangible manner, metaphorically through intellect and logic.
Aquarius is Diurnal Energy
Aquarius is a day-like energy. An energy that is active, from the centre going out and extroverted. The energy focuses on an object outside itself.
Aquarius is Fixed Energy
Every energy moves through space and time. Fixed energy does so by keeping a constant pace which stabilises what already has been in existence. It takes care of it and makes it grow even further. Aquarius is a steady, unwavering flow of air 24/7.
Aquarius is the temple of Saturn
As I have already written for Capricorn, Saturn is the energy in the Cosmos that rules over all that is slow, deliberate and carefully pondered. Saturn is excessively cold with drying and constricting quality to its action.
Saturn performs the needed role of the destructor of life by its unamicable nature to life. And that is why we find Saturn's signs opposite the Sun and Moon’s signs of Leo and Cancer, who are the givers of life.
Saturn is called the Greater Malefic because he brings things we don't usually like, such as limitations, obstacles, constraint, hard work, darkness and isolation.
Saturn is the last of the visible planet, acting as a limit to those in the Solar System and a gatekeeper to those who would like to cross the boundary one way or another. Saturn is the ruler of those who are in and those who are out.
What survives Saturn's action has won the test of endurance and the key to climb over the threshold.
Sun in the house of Aquarius
When Sun comes to pass in the house of Saturn, it is the furthest away from its own home of Leo. Here the Sun feels exiled in a world that does not recognise. Saturn's world is antithetical to the Sun's world.
Sun rules light. Saturn rules darkness. Saturn rules constriction. Sun rules expansion. Sun is hot. Saturn is cold. Sun rules the middle of summer. Saturn rules the middle of winter. Sun rules life. Saturn rules death.
The Sun in Aquarius shines a light where none usually is. But it does so with much difficulty. Sun finds itself fighting against itself. The Sun must first learn the importance of darkness, to be darkness, and only then emerge from the darkness to bring light.
Sun in Aquarius learns patience in the face of adversity. Both Aquarius and Leo have in common their mode of action. They are both fixed signs. They both know how to hold the line without flinching. They also have their outward movement in common; the world is their playground.
Sun in this Temple learns what it means to be an outsider, an outcast, an exiled, someone with no rights, yet finds dignity in all of this. Saturn's coldness and the Air's power of detachment grant Sun the possibility of not identifying with the problem.
The cold air of Aquarius brings the Sun a clarity that is born out of hours scanning the horizon. Clear vision comes from unemotional attachment. In Aquarius, clairvoyance, the ability to see in the future, is the fruit of pure logical deductions, what we might now call scientific hypothesis, put at the service of impersonal objectivity. It is the act of patiently and cleverly bringing the different concepts the Air element has hitchhiked during its long freezing travels.
How much of that knowledge will become used for humanity and performed with compassion is outside Aquarius's realm of action.
Aquarius in Medical Astrology
In Medical Astrology, Aquarius energy rules the ankles and lower leg, including shins and calves. Aquarius governs the Achilles' tendon, the longest and strongest tendon in our body, connecting the calf muscles with the heel. Stop for a second and visualise all the movements you can't do when you have hurt this part of the body. A simple one is rising on your tiptoes, literally stretching beyond your limits or peeking further beyond the wall.
Aquarius rules venous circulation, blood oxygenation, and the general quality of the blood cells. Aquarius is vital in the electrical system that runs throughout the body and strongly influences the spinal nerves. They are the main branches through which smaller nerves spread in the body.
If you think about it, Aquarius governs the delivery service systems of our body. The blood cells ferry oxygen and other information vital to be disseminated throughout the body to be aware of. Venous circulation brings back from the body feedback information to be analysed by the central system. The electrical system animates both the internal body communication and external deciphering systems.
Aquarius energy is very sensitive to light deficiency, which can cause fatigue, depression, and anaemia. There is always this need for fresh Air. The Air of Aquarius tends to be very cold and ultra-dry; it lacks moisture causing the air molecules to get charged with excess electricity. This makes Aquarius prone to electrical mutations caused by the environment or triggered by internal causes in the body.
This sensitivity makes Aquarius prone to electromagnetic radiation from computers, mobiles, antennas, etc.
Summary:
When Sun passes through Aquarius, it reminds us of life's duality and its perpetual dichotomy. Dark and light. Life and death. On this side of the wall, on the other side of the wall. And none could live without the other, and both are the expression of the same principle.
Sun in Aquarius brings detachment. Its steady still coldness that grants no forgiveness gives clarity unshackled by the heaviness of earth. And since its Saturn domain, it also brings the loneliness born out of seeing things that others can't or nostalgia of what could be but can't.
Sun in Aquarius invites us to peek over the threshold, hold the gaze fixed and steady . Observe. And imagine what could be.
Wishing you health, joy and prosperity,
Hilary
