On Friday 22nd of July 2022 at 20:06 UTC, the Sun returned to his home in Leo, his own temple and seat of power.
When Sun arrives in Leo, it is another moment in the Sun’s journey around the Zodiac, signalling a change. The Sun has now reached exactly halfway through Summer Solstice and Winter Equinox. The 15th degree of Leo would be the exact point.
And by now, we have noticed that both Sunrise and Sunset are happening later and earlier, respectively.
So what makes Leo energy Leo? Let’s look at the basics.
Leo is an element of Fire.
It is said that Fire is, of the archetypal elements, the nearest to the energy of life. Fire is considered of all the elements to be the lightest, least encumbered by this earthly plain. And yet it is the element that brings light and heat with which all the other elements will depend on. Fire is the equivalent of photons in its function.
Fire creates by forging new chemical bonds via the excitation of molecular bonds through heat. Esoterically Fire creates bonding with others through shared enthusiasm and inspired action.
I talk more about Fire in Sun in Aries and Sun in Sagittarius.
Leo is Diurnal Energy
The energy has the quality of the day where everything is active, moving out in the world for everyone to see. Diurnal energy is projected towards the outside, object-oriented. What is happening outside is more important than what is happening inside.
Leo is Fixed Energy
The diurnal fire energy of Leo moves through time and space at a constant pace. Fixed means piling up the same things repeatedly. That is why fixed modality tends to accumulate whatever it has started with from the beginning. Once an idea has been evaluated as inspirational to live, no one will be able to change Leo’s mindset.
Leo is the Temple of the Sun
The Sun is hot and dry. Not as hot and dry as Mars and not so irritative either. However, an excess dose of Sun can create as much damage as Mars.
When we say hot, we are referring to the physical temperature and the quality of being active, action-oriented, and high in energy levels. By dry, we mean that there is a tendency to be subjective, keeping one’s energy to oneself, not prone to create bonds with others.
The Sun is what makes our part of the Universe go round. It is the giver of energy, light and life. For the ancients, the Sun represented the all-seeing essence that witnessed life. As a bringer of light, the Sun, whatever it touches, illuminates and brings understanding, the gift of not only mental perception but of the soul itself. The divine breath of life that impregnates our human body.
Sun in the house of Leo
The Sun in Leo finds everything it needs to be at home, to be free to be himself without having to adapt to the will of other planets.
It finds Fire to be able to enact the will of the soul. It finds diurnal energy that gives the Sun extra power to radiate into the world. It gets fixed power that builds exponentially on the Sun’s ability to give life.
The Sun in Leo becomes extra hot and dry with a relentless power to burn out every single drop of moisture in the land without any kind of clemency.
Interestingly, the Sun finds its ideal home when it has already started its descent to the darker part of the season. The highest peak the Sun reaches in the sky is when the Sun enters Cancer, the temple of the Moon, at Summer Solstice. From then on, a slow, steady decline will take the Sun to the Autumn Equinox, the house of Libra. The Sun shines bright and strong, knowing it is slowly ebbing away from its peak strength.
And because of the above, the Sun in Leo becomes a determined power to shine no matter what. Enjoy every second of life because the clock is ticking, and soon it will be Winter.
Sun in Leo knows its worth, how much it can shine and give with generosity and great display worthy of stunning beautifully regal sunsets and sunrises. Sun in Leo can be ferociously attached to life and self-centred at the cost of becoming arrogant, intolerant, and inflexible like the Sun at noon that gives no respite day in and day out.
Leo in Medical Astrology
In Medical Astrology, Leo governs the heart, our inner Sun that circulates blood and pumps life in our human body. One can live with one eye, kidney, or limb or regrow a liver but not without a heart, just as our Solar system cannot exist without the Sun itself.
The aorta is the first artery that comes directly out of the heart and distributes oxygenated blood all over the body. It is the biggest and largest artery of our body.
Leo rules the electrical centre of the heart, especially the Sinoatrial Node. Just like the Sun is a self-sustaining power station, the Sinoatrial Node are specialised myocardial cells capable of self-excitation. That is, the power to contract without needing external stimuli.
Leo rules the back and the general spinal alignment of the vertebrae, connecting the brain to the rest of the body. With no spine, we would not stand erect. And with no metaphorical backbone, we wouldn’t have that nobility and dignity to stand with our back straight in front of adversity for what we believe is true to our hearts. The spinal cord and spinal myelin sheaths, and all that is located in the mid-thoracic and heart region, fall under Leo’s jurisdiction.
Sun in Leo tends to run hot and dry. Like the Sun in Aries, there tends to be a tendency towards acidic metabolism. Such disposition can be tempered by dietary and lifestyle changes. For example, not exaggerating meat and alcohol consumption, constantly hydrating, gymnastics for the back, and regular exercise. Read the Sun in Aries medical astrology part for more tips.
Summary
Sun in Leo reminds us that life is too short not to dare live our own dreams, what we have come here on Earth to do. Every second, every heartbeat gone will never come back. Just as the Sun in Leo fiercely exerts its power in directing the seasons no matter what, so should we conduct our divine essence in this human body with fervour.
Sun in Leo reminds us that we all have a soul that comes with a will to execute in this human body. A legacy that no one else can accomplish for us, nor us for others. And preferably performing it with relish and joy.
The photo is by yours truly a year ago (16th August 2021 at 19:59) near the lake of Chiusi in Umbria, Italy. I chose this photo because one can feel the heat radiating all over the place with no respite and the contrast between the orange sun and the land turned brown by heat and dryness. (It was hot as an oven, with heat emanating from the overbaked countryside, as you would expect in the middle of summer).
Wishing you health, joy and prosperity,
Hilary
